Agent Capabilities — Builder Role

Builders have all User capabilities plus full control over data, models, semantic descriptions, charts, dashboards, and automated jobs. The Agent acts as a platform configuration assistant in addition to being an analytical tool.

All User Capabilities

Builders have access to everything described in User Capabilities — chart generation, session management, and prompts.

Charts & Dashboards

Builders can manage the full lifecycle of charts and dashboards beyond their own scope. Every dashboard belongs to one custom model.

RequestWhat the Agent does
"List all charts for the Sales model"Returns charts filtered by model
"Share chart X with the Marketing group"Shares a chart with a group
"Who is dashboard Q1 Overview shared with?"Lists the users and groups a dashboard is shared with
"Clone dashboard Q1 Overview"Duplicates a dashboard
"Lock chart X so it can't be edited"Locks a chart or dashboard
"Approve chart X for production"Marks a chart or dashboard as approved
"Disable dashboard Y"Disables a dashboard without deleting it
"Export dashboard Q1 Overview as a package"Produces a portable dashboard package
"Import this dashboard package into the Sales model"Imports a dashboard package, including Model Map dashboards

Datasources

Builders can create, configure, and manage datasources through the Agent.

RequestWhat the Agent does
"List all datasources"Returns all accessible datasources
"Create a PostgreSQL datasource for our analytics DB"Walks through datasource creation
"Share datasource X with user anna@example.com"Grants a user access to a datasource
"Show details for datasource ID 42"Returns connection info, stats, and filter settings
"Update the row filter on datasource X"Modifies filter configuration

AI Models

Builders can create and configure Custom Models — purpose-built AI assistants that combine a language model with one or more datasources.

RequestWhat the Agent does
"List available models"Shows all models the Builder can access
"Create a model named Sales Intelligence"Initiates model creation
"Share model X with the Marketing group"Grants group access to a model
"Update the system prompt for model X"Modifies a model's configuration
"Delete model Y"Removes a model

Semantic Layer

Builders can read and update the semantic descriptions that the AI uses to understand data — table descriptions, column descriptions, and hierarchies.

RequestWhat the Agent does
"Show semantic description for table orders"Returns the current semantic metadata
"Update the description for column revenue"Updates a column description
"Trigger semantic extraction for datasource X"Starts a fresh extraction run
"Validate the connection for datasource X"Tests connectivity
"List hierarchies for model X"Shows configured dimension hierarchies
"Declare sales_amount as a Sum measure in EUR"Sets the column's role, aggregation, and unit as explicit measure semantics
"Add a gross margin measure combining revenue and cost"Adds a derived measure combining multiple columns

The Agent only declares measure semantics when you ask for it, or when it has identified that a chart's aggregation or unit is demonstrably wrong — never on its own initiative for an ordinary chart request. Often, improving the column's description is enough; declaring explicit measure semantics is for cases where automatic inference keeps getting it wrong.

Jobs

Builders can create and manage job definitions to automate data workflows.

RequestWhat the Agent does
"List all job definitions"Returns all configured jobs
"Create a daily job to reload datasource X"Creates a scheduled job
"Create a job definition that runs this Python script every night"Writes the task files in a private workspace that belongs only to you, packages and uploads them, and creates the job definition
"Trigger job X manually"Runs a job immediately
"Show the run history for job Y"Returns recent job run status
"Update the schedule for job X to run at 3 AM"Updates cron schedule
"Delete job Y"Removes a job definition

What Builders Cannot Do

The following actions require Admin privileges:

  • Managing user accounts and roles
  • Creating and managing groups
  • Monitoring the platform instance and license

See Admin Capabilities for those features.
