User Management

User management is exclusively available to Administrators. Navigate to Workspace → Access → Users to manage users.

User Seats and Costs

User invitations are a cost-relevant action

Lakehousecat uses a seat-based licensing model. Every user who is invited and accepts the invitation occupies a user seat in your subscription. Each active seat incurs a recurring per-user fee.

  • Inviting a user registers a seat with the subscription provider as soon as the invitation is accepted.
  • Current per-user fees depend on your subscription tier. Refer to your customer portal for the pricing that applies to your account, as fees may change over time.
  • The FREE tier is limited to a single user (the Administrator) and does not support additional seats.

Administrators are responsible for managing seats consciously. Unnecessary invitations that go unused still occupy a seat once accepted.

What Frees a Seat

ActionEffect on seat
Invite a user (pending)No seat consumed yet
User accepts invitationSeat consumed — costs incurred
Blocking / revoking session accessSeat remains occupied — costs continue
Removing a userSeat released — costs stop

Removing a user is the only way to release a seat. Blocking access or restricting a user's role does not free the seat — the user remains registered in the subscription. Removing a user also removes their session history and personal data from the workspace.

Roles

RoleDescription
AdministratorFull access to all areas including user management, provider configuration, and scaling
BuilderCan create Custom Models, Data Sources, and Job Definitions
UserCan use chat and view analytics; no configuration access
PendingInvitation sent but not yet accepted by the user

Inviting a User

Single Invitation (Form)

  1. Navigate to Workspace → Access → Users
  2. Click the + icon to open the invitation dialog
  3. Select the Role for the new user
  4. Enter the user's email address
  5. Click Send Invitation — Lakehousecat sends an activation email with a time-limited link

The invitee clicks the activation link, sets a password, and can then log in. Their username is their email address. The seat is consumed when the invitation is accepted.

Bulk Invitation (CSV Import)

To invite multiple users at once, switch to the CSV Import tab in the invitation dialog.

  • Upload a .csv file with 2 columns in this order: Email, Role
  • A template file is available for download directly in the dialog
  • Valid role values: user, builder, admin, pending

Each row in the CSV results in one invitation being sent. Seats are consumed as each user accepts their invitation.

Editing a User

Click the edit icon next to a user to update their name, email address, or password. Role changes are made separately by clicking the role badge directly in the user list.

Changing a User's Role

Click the role badge next to a user's name to cycle through available roles:

User → Administrator → Builder → Pending

The change takes effect immediately. Setting a user to Pending suspends their access without removing the seat.

Removing a User

Click the delete icon next to a user to remove them from the workspace. This action:

  • Releases the user seat — the recurring per-user cost stops
  • Removes the user's session history and personal data from the workspace
  • Cannot be undone

The last remaining Administrator cannot be deleted — at least one Administrator must exist at all times.

Groups

The Groups tab allows Administrators to create named groups and assign users to them. Group membership is used to manage shared access to Custom Models, Charts, Dashboards, and other objects. Group-based access is applied in addition to individual role permissions.
